I joined Mars Botanical as Analytical Manager in January 2009. As the analytical team leader, I work on designing experiments and analytical testing techniques in support of Mars Botanical products with validation in mind. I also participate in the execution of product strategies while ensuring that regulatory guidelines are met and followed by the company.

My background includes more than 10 years of natural products experience in the area of dietary supplements and herbals. Most recently I was the Director of Technical Services at ChromaDex, Inc. in Irvine, Calif. In my time at ChromaDex, I coordinated the phytochemical standards product line, developed analytical methods to assess the safety and quality of botanical dietary supplements, created marketing tools, and consulted industry, academia and government.

Prior to ChromaDex, I spent time as an Associate Research Scientist at the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi under the guidance of Dr. Ikhlas Khan, in a position funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the development of methods to ensure the quality and safety of botanicals and dietary supplements.

Understanding the importance of collaborating closely with industry, academia and government leaders is of real value in our work. My appreciation for these collaborations come from my time as a member of various review committees including NIH grants, analytical validation ERPs at AOAC and the Registry of Carcinogens. I also had the pleasure of holding an adjunct faculty position at the University of Colorado, Denver, advising a student that received his MS in Analytical Chemistry isolating phytochemicals and developing analytical testing procedures for Horse Chestnut.

I earned my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.A. in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Central College in Iowa. I have enjoyed authoring or co-authoring more than 50 publications and presentations.
